The 403 On Indie403

With a new summer beginning, the staff at Indie403 have all sat down to discuss the plans for the summer of 2013. The plan is to do absolutely nothing with Indie403 over the summer. Family obligations and other music priorities are forcing the team to take a step back for the summer months and revisit the option of continuing with Indie403 in the Fall.

Here are some personal quotes from the staff at Indie403:

“I think Indie403 has served its purpose. It was built on the foundation of supporting the Calgary Music Scene and building the scene from the ground up. 4 years later, I see that the Calgary Music Scene has grown and so has the media support side of it. There are so many “Indie403’s” out there now and it’s great to see so much initiative from other talented people in the scene that aren’t necessarily hitting the stage. A great example of this is Big Bill from Indie Underground. Bill invests so much time, effort, and emotion into the music scene and doesn’t expect to get anything out of it. He does his radio shows and even broadcasts live on location to promote the venue and the musical talent in this city.

For me, I’ve invested a lot into Indie403 and to be honest, it’s moved in a far different direction that it was originally intended to go in. I’m proud of what Indie403 has become and for every single musician, artist, journalist, and so on, that Indie403 has been able to work with over the past 4 years, and I hope to continue to solidify my original idea for Indie403 and launch it that when it’s ready.

In closing, I’d like to say that I am thankful for the acceptance and the support Indie403 has received from the Calgary Music Scene and even more from the individuals that I have met, built friendships with, and those that I have worked with. I can’t wait to see the growth that the Calgary Music Scene takes from this day onwards, and I will continue to contribute towards the success of it.”

“It’s been a blast building Indie403 with Damien, Jenn and our team of writers. From initially focusing on managing a small number of Calgary acts to supporting and promoting a wide array of Canadian bands nation-wide, it’s been a remarkable journey and learning experience in the plethora of ways we’ve tried to help the bands and grow the independent scene.

The scene has certainly grown a ton since we started and it’s been my immense pleasure to be a part of it. Thank you to all the bands, venues, writers, promoters, concert-goers, and supporters that we’ve worked with and interacted with. The future is very exciting!”

“I can’t believe how much we’ve done and how many amazing people we’ve met over the past few years. Like Damien said, Indie403 has paved the way for other people and I think it’s time for us to let them grow and take over from where we left off.

Because of Indie403 I’ve made friends across the country, have heard hundreds of new albums and have actually been recognized as “that music writer from Calgary.” I can’t say how thankful and proud I am of Indie403 and the people who have supported us over the years, and I know with the right people pushing it forward the music scene in Calgary will continue to explode.”
